FTMS Deepavali Celebration 2012

Deepavali, popularly known as the “festival of lights” has been the celebration of Hindu people all over the world. Lights are placed everywhere to signify the triumph of good over evil. Family members, relatives and friends get together. They wear new clothes and share cakes, sweets and palatable food. They are engaged in chit chatting about the past, present and future.

This year, FTMS College again celebrated Deepavali with all the staff and students including the Hindus. It was organized by the Student Council.

The event started at 12.30pm. Allister and Norfaradilah belted out their speeches as joint MCs’ for the day. The President of the Student Council, Shola Olaniyan then continued, by saying a few words. Our Registrar, Madam Poovaie also conveyed her words of wisdom on behalf of FTMS College Management.

A special captivating dance performance by our sporting FTMS student, Preevena was one of the highlights.

She stole the show. There was a cheerful round of applause.

Then, the “Kolam Colouring Competition” which requires the artistic touches of four pairs of participants began. Ms. Vidya explained the rules for this competition. All the participants in pairs were given 15 minutes to complete the “Kolam”. These beautiful pieces of artwork were judged by Ms. Dilashni, Ms. Anbarasi and Ms. Kasturi. The outstanding winning pair was Nabi Walizada and Jaj.

Madam Poovaie graced the prize-giving ceremony.

At about 1.30pm, all guests were then invited to the cafeteria for a wonderful feast of palatable Deepavali dishes prepared by FTMS Staff.

The event ended shortly after 2pm. This was indeed another special festive day to remember at FTMS.
